Hardware-tied credentials. Some real-world proposals like Google’s approach instead “bind” credentials to a piece of hardware, such as the trusted platform module in your phone. This makes credential theft harder — a hacker will need to “crack” the hardware to clone the credentials. But a successful theft still has big consequences that can undermine the security of the whole system.
